Please send us your publication information for our new bookshelf — cfabbian@uic.edu and gragnani@temple.edu. We will include WSC’s members’ articles and books published since 2009. Please, limit your submissions to works already published, not in progress. We hope that this new space will soon become a growing bibliography to help all of us at the WSC to stay in touch with the discipline and each other.
a presto,
Cristina and Chiara

Thomas Simpson, Murder and Media in the New Rome, (Palgrave Macmillan 2010)
Studies a scandalous trial and its surrounding media circus that took place in Rome in 1879. The trial, of an adulterous couple that murdered the wife’s husband, shocked the nation because women attended the daily trial sessions in droves, a phenomenon that dismayed the guardians of rectitude of the new state. Giosue Carducci, for example, wrote his epode, “A proposito del processo Fadda,” to denounce women’s attendance at the trial.

Julia L. Hairston and Walter Stephens (editors), The Body in Early Modern Italy, The Johns Hopkins University Press, 2010
Human bodies have been represented and defined in various ways across different cultures and historical periods. As an object of interpretation and site of social interaction, the body has throughout history attracted more attention than perhaps any other element of human experience. The essays in this volume explore the manifestations of the body in Italian society from the fourteenth through the seventeenth centuries.

Angela Jeannet, Il grande risveglio.
